Dakar is the capital of Senegal. It was founded in the year 1857 when the French constructed a burg on the site of the de l' independence to protect the interests of the pedlars who had been staying there for years and of the inhabitants of Goree, a waterless island in the sheltered side of Peninsula which was formerly a frontier for slaves.
According to the 2011 population census, it states that Dakar has about 1.056 million population making it the most populated city in Senegal and is the chief sea-port in West Africa.

LAKE RETBA
Lake Retba is a special lake that has pink colour because of an algae that is found beneath the lake. The algae is called Dunaliella salina and has a high salt content. The interesting part of the lake is that the colour changes as seasons change. Science has proven that the algae produces a red pigment that helps in the absorption of light.
